We have a comprehensive understanding of the Electricity Act and its application to land rights and compensation, specialising in representing landowners affected by electricity apparatus including overhead and underground cables, both existing and proposed as well as land required for substations.

With considerable expertise in the land aspects of electricity grid, we have acted for landowners and farmers across Scotland, spanning new electricity infrastructure and the refurbishment of existing lines.

Working across Scotland, including the western highlands and the islands, we are one of few firms in Scotland to concentrate on representing the farming and landowning community against SSE and SPEN.

We work across the whole process, working closely with the developer to create detailed heads of terms. This process includes negotiating compensation for the grant of the rights sought by developers, as well as preparing and agreeing a terms of entry document that addresses the specification of works on the ground and the parameters within which the contractor must operate.

We will also work with solicitors to ensure that the commercial elements are incorporated into any formal, legal drafts. Once works start on site, we can continue to represent our clients’ interests ensuring accuracy of implementation.

We provide independent advice and negotiate the best terms for our clients, navigating the complexity of the process including access arrangements, construction disturbance and injurious affection where appropriate.
