Bringing a new type of commercial awareness and strategic thinking to the long-term custodianship of a new country park for the city

      Trumpington Meadows 13

      Size
      143 acres

      Client
      Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust

When the Wildlife Trust sought to take on Cambridge’s largest country park, its challenge was securing an agreement that worked financially whilst also delivering great environmental outcomes. Our rare 360-degree view of ecology objectives and land deal structures helped them achieve both.

This edge of Cambridge country park was created by Grosvenor as part of its award-winning new 1,200-home community. The Wildlife Trust was the ideal long-term custodian for the park and entered negotiations to take on a 115-year Section 106 liability and a financial endowment for its long-term management.

We advised on the transfer of the freehold, helping negotiate contractual structures and terms to secure appropriate funding and mitigate risks for the trust while also meeting its environmental obligations - its main driver in the deal.

Our rounded commercial and ecological understanding and approach to negotiations – a rare combination – ensured the Trust will comfortably oversee this biodiverse city park for generations to come.
