Biodiversity Units For Sale

Providing conventional and bespoke biodiversity solutions.

Purchasing biodiversity units

With over a decade at the forefront of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), we help developers meet their obligations with clarity and confidence. We have supported the establishment of more than 30 habitat banks across England and our proven track record and deep planning expertise make us trusted leaders in this evolving market.

We hold exclusive brokering mandates on several registered sites and have a substantial pipeline of sites in development to continue expanding our coverage.

Our national network of habitat banks offers a clear route to securing off-site BNG. Our extensive experience in the site registration and unit allocation process gives purchasers confidence that we provide credible solutions and can guide them through the process.

Bespoke biodiversity solutions

Our significant portfolio of landowning clients across the country and our extensive experience in developing habitat banks enables us to provide bespoke solutions to meet large-scale and niche BNG requirements.

Having overseen the development of over 30 BNG schemes from conception through to implementation across the country, we are able to provide realistic timelines to give you assurance on the solution.

Utilising surplus biodiversity units

Where developments create surplus biodiversity units, we help unlock their value. We can help structure planning obligations to enable the sale or allocation of biodiversity units to other schemes and assist with the marketing and sale of biodiversity units to third-parties where appropriate.

We can also advise on suitable parties to deliver the physical works and ongoing management, including negotiating appropriate contracts and payment structures, which is integral to the success of an environmental scheme.

FAQs

Do you have biodiversity units available now?

Yes. We have biodiversity units available from registered habitat banks, meaning biodiversity units can be reserved or purchased immediately to support planning submissions and discharge BNG conditions.

How quickly can we secure biodiversity units?

In many cases, biodiversity units can be identified and allocated within days from our registered BNG sites, helping developers avoid planning delays.

Can you supply the exact number of biodiversity units our scheme needs?

Yes. We can supply anything from fractional biodiversity units to large-scale requirements, ensuring you only purchase what your development requires.

Can you provide the right habitat types to meet the BNG trading rules?

Yes. Our portfolio includes a variety of habitat types, helping developers meet the BNG trading rules that prioritise matching habitat types and locations.

Will purchasing biodiversity units through Bidwells satisfy our BNG planning condition?

Yes. Our team supports developers in securing compliant biodiversity units, ensuring a development’s BNG trading rules are satisfied and successfully registering biodiversity unit allocations with Natural England.

Why buy biodiversity units through Bidwells?

Developers choose Bidwells because we offer:

  • BNG planning condition satisfaction – 100% success rate in registering BNG sites and biodiversity unit allocations
  • Credibility - Landowner-led habitat banks delivering high quality environmental and social outcomes in perpetuity
  • Flexible unit volumes – from fractions to tens and hundreds of biodiversity units
  • Variety of habitat types – including medium, high and very-high distinctiveness areas, hedgerow and watercourse habitats
  • Nationwide coverage – minimising the spatial risk multiplier
  • Value for money – landscape scale BNG that is well-resourced and cost-effective
  • Simple and fast procurement – straightforward process to reserve or complete the purchase of biodiversity units within days
Who delivers and manages the habitats?

Our biodiversity units are delivered through landowner-led habitat banks, with long-term legally secured management plans in place to ensure habitats are maintained for at least 30 years by the landowners.

How do I obtain a quote for biodiversity units?

You can request a quote using this form to share details including:

  • Development location
  • Habitat type requirements
  • Number of biodiversity units needed

We can quickly confirm the availability and price of suitable units.

What are some of the pitfalls of a BNG strategy?

Check that your planning officer approves your off-site BNG solution before you purchase the biodiversity units. We can provide a letter stating the habitat bank details and capacity to meet your development’s BNG trading rules that you can share with your planning officer in advance of reserving or purchasing biodiversity units.

Your BNG requirement might change as you progress from concept to detailed design during the planning process. We can allow for flexibility in the quantity of biodiversity units you reserve to ensure that you will ultimately only buy the biodiversity units that you need.

Do you have any customer testimonials I can review?

Yes. Please see a couple of examples below:

“As the first organisation to invest in the Lower Valley Farm scheme we are proud to lead the way in Cambridgeshire through our partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council and Bidwells to help achieve our environmental objectives.”
Emma Sharpe, Network Rail Anglia

“We successfully secured 24.24 habitat units from Bentley Heath BNG scheme where Bidwells facilitated the negotiations to develop a bespoke agreement, meeting our planning condition for the development of a logistics warehouse.”
James Craig, Griggs Homes

How do I know I’m getting the best value for biodiversity units?

We offer dynamic pricing that accounts for the cost of delivering each habitat type and apply quantum discounts for large transactions, as well as ensuring that we continue to price competitively in the market.

We facilitate your purchase of the biodiversity units directly from the landowner. We don’t list our habitat banks on any of the BNG trading platforms, ensuring that there are no additional fees.
