Lake View Bereavement Centre

The development presented a rare opportunity to create something more than a crematorium, blending a high-quality, welcoming facility with its lakeside landscape within a fixed council budget.

We worked closely with the client and architect to refine the brief, coordinating stakeholders including the Wildlife Trust, council representatives and MPs, and securing planning approval by a non-negotiable deadline in April 2025. 

Alongside the Quantity Surveyor, we led a value engineering exercise to align the scheme with its target cost plan and manage risks, including unidentified objects found within the ground, while also protecting continued lake access for local fishing communities.

East Cambridgeshire District Council now has a thoughtfully designed bereavement centre that combines operational efficiency with a genuine sense of place. Distinguished by its striking butterfly-shaped roof, the multi-faith chapel offers cremation services alongside natural burials, complemented by a memorial garden, covered walkway, and chapel of rest.
