Andrew heads the Aberdeen Office and has been working on all aspects of rural property in
north-east Scotland for over 30 years.

After qualifying as a chartered surveyor, Andrew worked as Factor (Grampian) for the National Trust for Scotland managing the landholdings around the Trust’s historic castles and country houses before returning to private practice. He joined Bidwells in 2014 to open the Aberdeen Office.

Under various framework agreements, he has managed teams across Scotland agreeing priorities with clients, co-ordinating progress and reporting under agreed protocols. He has been responsible for developing, implementing and managing formal quality assurance procedures to achieve independently audited accreditation.

Over many years he has been involved in a wide range of work involving rural property. He is an RICS Registered Valuer and has extensive experience of valuing farms, residential property, fishing rights, and renewable energy installations as well as marine interests. Valuations are carried out for a range of purposes including purchase, sale, secured lending, compulsory purchase, capital taxation and financial reporting. He has worked for private and corporate clients as well as the public sector.

Andrew has also been active in managing rural estates throughout Aberdeenshire. This has typically involved dealing with all aspects of agricultural and residential tenancies, contract farming, sporting lets, and land use advice including negotiation of options for development sites.

Andrew has wide-ranging experience of dealing with infrastructure projects, both for promoters and landowners. From project planning, through site operations to post construction reinstatement and compensation, he has negotiated land rights, accesses, temporary compounds and compensation for a multitude of properties affected by oil/gas pipelines, electricity lines and water pipelines.

For several years Andrew has been involved with renewable energy projects and, with the benefit of acting for both landowners and developers, has a thorough understanding of the requirements for a successful project. He advises on lease terms and rentals, wayleave rates, ground investigation consents and access issues, and prepares technical due diligence reports for funders.

  • Windfarms in north-east Scotland - securing developers’ rights for electricity export cables; negotiating options for cables and accesses including community benefit
  • Moray Offshore Windfarm - negotiating option terms for acquisition of sub-station site; advising landowners on heads of terms for landward grid connection route
  • Valuation - multi-million pound portfolio for financial reporting; farms and rural houses; development site
