Bidwells has expanded its Energy and Climate service with a series of appointments across the UK, including the launch of a new behind-the-meter renewables capability.

The hires expand Bidwells’ advisory support for landowners, developers, investors and occupiers as demand accelerates for practical and innovative routes to decarbonisation, resilient energy infrastructure and land strategies that deliver measurable sustainability and commercial value.

Launch of Behind-the-Meter Renewables service line

Edoardo Ruggeri has joined Bidwells as an Associate in the Energy and Renewables team to lead a new Behind-the-Meter Renewables service line for buildings, operations and portfolios with a wide range of energy demands.

Joining from CBRE UK, Ruggeri brings specialist experience in delivering behind-the-meter renewable energy projects and strategies for major commercial, industrial and logistics clients and long income institutional investors such as pension funds. His expertise is further bolstered by a strong technical background, with a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge.

Based in Cambridge, Ruggeri will advise clients on behind-the-meter and private wire renewable energy strategies that may also include futureproofing measures such as battery storage and EV chargers, with a focus on delivering behind-the-meter renewable energy solutions that unlock both decarbonisation progress and long-term commercial value.

Edoardo Ruggeri, Associate, Energy and Renewables at Bidwells, said:

“Behind-the-meter renewables is one of the most immediate and commercially compelling opportunities available to property owners and occupiers today. I’m excited to be joining Bidwells to build out this new service line and help clients deliver projects that reduce emissions, strengthen energy resilience and generate measurable returns from their assets.”

Strengthening Energy and Climate expertise in Scotland

In Scotland, Bidwells has appointed Helen Gray as a partner in Energy and Renewables, strengthening the team’s capability across the development lifecycle, from early-stage site strategy and viability through to land assembly and delivery support.

Gray joins Bidwells from Danish renewables giant Ørsted, where she was senior land and property manager, bringing extensive experience supporting major renewable energy developments and navigating the land and stakeholder requirements that underpin successful delivery.

Bidwells has also appointed Ross McLaren as an associate in Energy and Renewables. McLaren joins from international renewables developer Boralex and brings developer-side experience and additional insight into the evolving commercial dynamics of renewable development, including repowering opportunities.

Helen Gray, partner, Energy and Renewables at Bidwells, said:

“Scotland remains one of the most important markets in the UK for renewable energy development, and the pace of change across the sector is only accelerating. I’m delighted to be joining Bidwells at a time when clients need clear, commercially grounded advice to bring forward viable projects and secure long-term value from the energy transition.”

Ross McLaren, associate, Energy and Renewables at Bidwells, added:

“Having worked on the developer side, I’ve seen first-hand how complex renewable projects can be to deliver in practice. Bidwells has an exceptional platform in Energy and Climate, and I’m looking forward to supporting clients as repowering and next-generation infrastructure become increasingly important parts of the UK renewables landscape.”
