Over 200 rooms were required by the college to house a variety of students as well as new communal areas. We project managed the construction and design teams to deliver the build on time.
Balliol College required 226 new rooms, a communal sports pavilion and extensive landscaping for its students. The accommodation is split over several buildings and offers premium residential space for graduate and postgraduate students.
As an historic Oxford college, the client requested that access to the existing facilities continued to be possible throughout the construction period. We coordinated the large team that was involved through face-to-face meetings and continual dialogue with the committee and produced detailed, monthly reports for all parties that summarised the fast-moving and changing project.
Working to a tight deadline, the client requested that the facilities be completed by the start of the academic year. We also oversaw the construction and installation of all the project’s custom-made furniture.
The project was unanimously awarded by two Oxford design review panels and multiple stakeholders and delivered to a very high standard and within the project budget.

Our Masterplanning, Landscape and Assessment Team provided Landscape Architecture for this project.

WINNER: RIBA South Award was awarded to the Catherine Hughes Building, Somerville and Master's Field Development, Balliol.
