Calum is a member of Bidwells’ Energy & Renewables Team, assisting in energy and infrastructure projects, valuations, land & environmental management, and undertaking a broad range of rural professional work.

Calum joined Bidwells in 2015 as a Rural Surveyor after completing a Masters Degree in Rural Surveying and Rural Property Management at the University of Aberdeen, following an undergraduate degree in Scots Law. Calum qualified as a chartered surveyor with the RICS in 2017.

Based in our Fort William Office, Calum is involved in rural professional work with clients throughout Scotland. He has experience in estate and property management, energy and infrastructure projects, valuations, agency, employee negotiations and various estate diversification projects. Calum has also worked within the deer management sector and handled complex agricultural tenancy matters.

He has experience in representing landowners’ interests in large utilities projects and in negotiating access agreements and compensation payments.

Calum has extensive experience of the Land Registration process, and has carried out comprehensive land referencing searches for Renewable Developers looking for energy development sites throughout Scotland.

Calum has experience of working with community groups and has been advising on various agricultural tenancies for a large Community Trust.

Recent projects

  • Solar Farm Land referencing
    Acting for a developer to identify sites for solar farm development in Angus, including site identification, owner contact and progressing negotiations on behalf of the developer.

  • Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Limited (SHETL) Stronelairg Substation 
    Representing the landowner in negotiations and representations to SHETL, ensuring that construction protocols are adhered to and protecting the landowner’s interests. Work includes mitigating damage to the client’s property while a large-scale infrastructure project is carried out on their land.

  • Agricultural consultancy and management
    Representing a large community body in agricultural landlord & tenant matters, as well as strategic estate management advice. Projects include arranging a long-term farm tenancy and the sale of various redundant assets.

  • Highland estate management
    Managing a contained Highland estate with extensive sporting opportunities and a number of holiday let properties. Strategic advice given on marketing of the properties, employee issues including taxation and benefits, deer management and environmental schemes.
