Barney has over two years’ experience in the planning industry and has recently completed his master’s degree from Oxford Brookes University.
Barney is a Planner within the Oxford team, working on a variety of different projects. These range from Listed Building Consent applications for internal alterations, to large-scale residential schemes. He has developed a specialist knowledge on the hospitality and leisure sector.
His skills include undertaking preliminary planning appraisals and due diligence; leading project teams and ensuring a smooth and efficient planning process; preparing pre-application submissions, planning applications and appeals; monitoring Planning Policy and statutory Government bodies, keeping in touch with strategic change across the region.
Barney completed his master’s dissertation regarding the role of heritage on Oxford’s high street. This involved substantial research including policy appraisal and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders.
Submitted an application on behalf of Worcester College, Oxford for a new bridge across a lake within their grounds. The site had various heritage sensitivities but was ultimately approved following strong engagement with the Council.
Successfully secured al fresco dining areas for national chains including:
Successfully secured Listed Building Consent facilitating building refurbishments for national chains, including within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bath.
Successfully defended schemes at appeal and has experience with enforcement cases.
Undertakes comprehensive site appraisals for changes of use, extensions and parking relating to sensitive sites such as statutory and locally listed buildings and those within conservation areas, green belt, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs).
