Excellence in Planning
to Deliver Housing
Chelmsford City Park West (Phases 1 & 2)
Submitted by: Bidwells and Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects
A hybrid application was approved in November 2012 and comprises a mixed-use redevelopment of the former Anglia Ruskin University Central Campus including the restoration of a Grade II listed building and other historical buildings, for 219 dwellings, commercial floorspace and a food store.
The previously derelict site is located in central Chelmsford. Being EIA development the scheme was accompanied by an Environmental Statement which was updated for Phase 2 and approved in February 2015.
This later approval varied the original outline aspect of the hybrid permission in increasing the number of dwellings across the combined phases of development.
Phase 2 has now commenced and also comprises of a further 400 homes, 5,350 square metres of flexible retail/business uses and provision of a public square to frame and complement the retained historic Law and Chancellor buildings.
Excellence in Planning
for the Natural Environment
Submitted by: Bidwells
New urban extension land and strategic road infrastructure east of Aylesbury. The proposal was an outline planning application for 2450 homes; two new primary schools and a site reserved for a secondary school; an employment park plus community and road infrastructure.
The proposal was to combine an urgent housing and road requirement but in a location where wet ground conditions and ecological sensitivities had to be mitigated. The proposal was centred on a hydrological solution that created a new regime of landscape.
That landscape was formed from consideration of the location of important ecological habitats and the means to adapt these into landscaped areas for nature reserves.
These then helped to frame a new development which now includes an intended RSPB managed regional wetland reserve.
On this occasion, Bidwells was pipped to the post for an award though a great evening was had by all followed by some industry networking and a drinks reception.
The Awards were an opportunity to celebrate a successful year for Bidwells Planning Team with some exciting projects underway and many more emerging in 2016.
