Pedal Power - Bidwells puts its wheels in motion to raise money for charity
Some 70 cyclists hit the road over the course of two days and covered a staggering 177 miles to raise much-needed funds for a host of children's charities.
The cyclists were taking part in Bidwells first ever Golden Triangle Bike Ride which ran from London via Oxford and Milton Keynes to Cambridge.
Even Patrick McMahon, the firm's Senior Partner dusted off his bike and covered the Milton Keynes to Cambridge leg – a total of 55 miles.
He said: "This is the first time we have arranged an event like this and we were a little apprehensive as to whether the challenge might be a bit too much for everyone. However, as always, our Bidwells family embraced it and we were delighted when more than 70 people signed up including clients from Beard Construction, Industry, SDC, Citygate Developments, Balvraid Properties Ltd, Hewitsons LLP.
"Some people taking part were experienced cyclists and completed the epic 177 mile challenge, while others, like me, hadn't been near a bike in years.
The whole event was a spectacular, yet sometimes painful, success, but it was really good to bring people from all our offices together. The incentive of raising money for such wonderful charities also kept everyone going, especially when faced with another daunting hill!
"I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the event and to those who sponsored us. We are delighted to have raised £10,000 plus so far and the money still continues to roll in."
The bike ride marks the launch of the firm's new brand and its extensive knowledge and expertise within the "Golden Triangle" as well as raising money for its six partnered UK charities – EACH, ROSY, CHAS, Starlight, Leo's Appeal and Adam's Fund.
The cycle ride was 177 miles in total which is the exact numbers of years which Bidwells has been in operation.
Beard as a team was extremely privileged to be invited to support Bidwells in its efforts to raise funds for its partnered charities. Although a few are keen cyclists, none of us had completed these kinds of distances back to back over a two day period, so it was a tough challenge. The signposting was so good we arrived in Cambridge two hours earlier than expected!
