Sainsbury’s, Pret A Manger and Caffé Nero now open
The trio of leading brands which will form the main retail and social hub around Station Square are now open and trading. Already proving popular with commuters, visitors and residents, the retailers are providing community focal point for CB1, the vibrant new city.
The new Sainsbury’s is providing convenient supermarket shopping for the 10 million passengers using Cambridge station every year. The supermarket is joined by natural, handmade food specialist Pret A Manger and popular coffee house Caffé Nero.
A spokesperson for Brookgate, said:
“The new shops and cafes look fantastic and are another symbol of the amazing progress we are making at CB1. Coupled with the completed ibis Hotel, a soon to be open premium Young’s pub and the Friday street market foodpark, we are seeing CB1’s emergence as a buzzing destination in its own right, as well as a befitting gateway to Cambridge as a world-class city.”
James Lankfer, Head of Retail and Leisure at Bidwells, agents for the lettings said:
“Whilst all three retailers have units that trade well in the city centre they recognise the opportunity that this new gateway to the city presents. It also reflects the strength of demand from both retailers and food operators for Cambridge which has one of the lowest vacancy rates in the region. Demand in the high street retail market in Cambridge currently stands at 590,000 sq ft while the availability rate is at 8%.”
CB1 is set to provide a significant boost to Cambridge’s economy by attracting leading, high-growth businesses, residents and visitors to the area. Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the project is delivering a state-of-the-art transport interchange, the UK’s largest cycle park with 3,000 spaces, prestigious ‘grade A’ offices, premium residential, retail and hotel space and purpose-built student residence accommodation.
