Milton Keynes named in top 10 of UK’s most innovative tech cities

A new index aimed at identifying the UK’s most active tech innovation cities was launched in Q3 2017 by The Open Data Institute and Digital Catapult.

The UK Tech Innovation Index unsurprisingly identified London, Edinburgh and Manchester as the three most tech innovative cities, whilst Cambridge (6th), Milton Keynes (8th) and Oxford (8th) were all were placed in the top 10 positions.


The index is intended to inform private and public decision-makers when making investment and growth decisions.


Oxford/Milton Keynes rail link due to open in 2019

The western section of the proposed ‘Varsity line’ is expected to be operational by 2019, linking Milton Keynes to Oxford via Bletchley.

The longer-term eastern expansion of the Varsity line together with the expressway will make Milton Keynes a key strategic location between the university cities of Cambridge and Oxford, boosting business and increasing productivity.

The line is expected to be built over the previous route of the East/West rail link which was decommissioned in the 1960s and will be one of the most significant investments in the railways since the Victorian times.


MK’s Smart City initiative used as case study for World Bank ‘Internet of Things’ report

A recent report by the World Bank has focused on the potential for the internet to enhance the quality of life and the delivery of services by the public sector.
Milton Keynes’ Smart City initiative was featured as one of the showcase studies of how a local authority can utilise the internet to enhance the public realm and to improve the business environment in the city.


New scheme planned for Avebury  Boulevard, Milton Keynes

A new 140,000 sq ft office and retail scheme is due to start in early 2018, 200 yards from Milton Keynes mainline railway station at 100 Avebury Boulevard. This will deliver much-needed grade A space to the market. The scheme has been put forward by A W James and is expected to be ready for occupation in the late summer of 2019.

An additional 300,000 sq ft is in early planning phase at Midsummer Boulevard. The scheme will be a JV between MKDP and Sterling Ventures. The planned development will deliver a landmark office scheme of regional importance.
