The Government has confirmed that the simplified process for obtaining temporary permission to place tables and chairs on the highway outside food and drink venues will be extended until September 2022. This extension will support the return of hospitality venues over the coming months.

Additionally, it is also permitted to erect a marquee within the grounds of a pub or restaurant venue for up to two months without the need for permission. This permission will help venues to cater for customers over colder months towards the end of the year.

Lastly, at the beginning of the first lockdown measures were introduced to allow venues to serve take-away food. This initiative will continue to apply until at least March 2022, with a desire to make become permanent.

These are common sense measures to assist the return of the much missed hospitality industry. Hopefully struggling venues will be able to rekindle vital trade not only for themselves but also for their local communities.

With some exceptions, many local authorities have been wholly sympathetic to all those but the worst cases of planning breaches over the past twelve months.
