The Ivy

Soho Brasserie

Bidwells was retained to secure planning permission for a new Ivy Brasserie in the heart of London.

What we did

  • Secured planning permission for a large new restaurant and openable shopfront

  • The site lies within the Soho Stress Area where planning policy seeks to resist large restaurants

  • Comprehensive justification for exceeding the Council’s floorspace limit of 500sq.m for new restaurants

  • Liaised with local residents to minimise their concerns

  • Gained political support for the restaurant from local Councillors to achieve permission at Committee

  • Established flagship restaurant for the Ivy in prime central London location

  • Client can open the restaurant in line with their demanding time-frame

  • Overcame strict planning policies on very large restaurants in the Soho Stress Area where evening uses are highlighted as affecting local character. The client’s track record as an exceptional operator was clearly articulated throughout the application process.

  • Negotiated planning permission for openable shopfronts for the summer months contrary to Council’s normal approach .
