Bidwells specialist Hospitality & Leisure Planning team were appointed by Gordon Holdings to submit a listed building application for an extensive refurbishment of Gordon Ramsay’s iconic grill restaurant within the Savoy Hotel.

What we did

  • Engaged with planning and conservation officers at pre-application stage to secure support in principle for a full-scale redecoration and refurbishment of the restaurant and wine store

  • The Savoy Grill is located on the ground floor of the Grade II listed hotel building, lying within the Savoy Conservation Area

  • The proposals comprised the installation of a new bar, replacement floor finishes, new decorative treatment to the walls, replacement lighting and the refurbishment of the private dining room which overlooks the kitchens. The existing office was also remodelled to provide additional dining space, involving the demolition of an existing stud partition and the installation of new wine racks and fridges

  • Comprehensive justification and an assessment of historical significance was required to support the proposed internal alterations






  • The requisite listed building consent was approved by officers acting under delegated powers, within 4 weeks of the original submission
  • There were no pre-commencement conditions imposed by officers, therefore the works can lawfully commence without any further delay
