Bidwells was instructed to obtain planning permission for the demolition of two existing residential blocks and replacing them with 43 apartments and a single detached dwelling in Summerhouse Way, Abbotts Langley, for Thrive Homes. The development doubles the existing number of dwellings on the site.

What we did

  • Provided planning advice to support the planning application following a negative pre-application response to refine the development proposals prior to submission of the application

  • Supported the application with a detailed planning statement to overcome policy objections and demonstrated the case to support the development 

  • Engaged with the local authority case officer at the early stage of the planning application to overcome councillor concerns and assist the process to a positive recommendation

  • Negotiated conditions to ensure the proposals was implementable for the client 

Result

  • The application was approved at the first attempt and Bidwells managed to win over support from local councillors whom were originally strongly opposed to the proposals 

  • Development of a positive relationship with the Three Rivers Case Officers and a detailed understanding of how matters are progressed at Three Rivers 

  • Through more recent work with Three Rivers District Council, Bidwells has established a positive relationship with the senior management at the Local Authority.
