OSI search Oxford University’s maths, physical, life sciences, medical sciences, computer science and engineering divisions for ideas the world might not yet understand, and for the seeds of entirely new possibilities.
Once located, they protect IP and invest industry-leading expertise alongside capital to drive growth and ensure spin-outs are supported.
Bidwells' Building Consultancy team partnered with OSI to provide property advice. OSI has so far been involved in developing a portfolio of 50+ companies and is targeting the creation of one unicorn a year ($1bn company).
Tucked neatly beneath the brand-new H B Allen Centre quad, a 2,000 sq m open plan innovation hub has been designed for these companies to be seeded and nurtured, named 'Grassroots' by OSI.
What we did:
- Alongside architect/contractor Modus, Bidwells’ Building Consultancy team managed the complex delivery of this innovation hub space for OSI and its portfolio companies.
- The design was carefully considered to attract the brightest talent in science to mix, be nurtured, and grow onwards into the wider Oxford eco system.
This unique space provides the much-needed location for start-up companies and those with exciting new ideas to work alongside one another supported by OSI experts and professional advisors. It is the engine room for OSI’s portfolio growth into the wider Oxford market
The light-filled area currently houses a mix of meeting rooms, workshops and open collaboration space, allowing users flexibility throughout their workday.
The robust concrete structure allows for a magnitude of future reconfiguration possibilities whilst also maximising the basement location
- The space has been flexibly configured to accommodate incubation and accelerator spaces for post-graduate enterprises
