North Uttlesford is a proposed Garden Village settlement to the north of Essex on the borders with Cambridgeshire. The strategic master plan is for a mixed-use development including 5,000 new homes.
Influenced by Garden City Principles the development is intended to be self-sustaining with a mix of uses arranged into a series of village settlements. These settlements are interconnected by public transport, including cycling and walking routes, with a network of open spaces at the heart of the proposals. Development is proposed as an extension to a series of historic farmsteads located on land near to the village of Great Chesterford. A new public park ‘Water Meadows’ will create a large accessible public park between the two settlements. Promoted as a sustainable settlement and as a solution to North Uttlesford’s future housing land supply needs, the development proposals include a secondary school, community uses and an employment zone.
