New Lodge Farm

Walgrave, Northamptonshire

Provision of Heritage Statement for a relatively unknown, but exceptional, Victorian model farm, with associations with the Langham Baronets formerly of Cottesbrooke Hall

What we did

  • Conducted in-depth primary and secondary research using the available material in collections held at the National Archives, Kew; and the Northamptonshire Record Office – although the principal Langham archive is apparently missing, having been withdrawn from open public access
  • Provision of Heritage Statement, detailing the significance of what is a relatively unknown model farm, built in circa 1840-1850, and exemplifying the exquisite architecture and plan-form adhering to the principles of 19th century agricultural improvement. It is not nationally statutorily designated, but is considered a local heritage asset, and remains relatively unaltered compared with equivalent sites

  • The project is ongoing: the Heritage Statement contributes to a planning application for the replacement of the extant grain store with a new dwelling house
