Bidwells was instructed to obtain planning permission for two new supermarkets following the withdrawal of Waitrose from a previous scheme. This resulted in the existing permission failing to meet the needs of the new operator.

What we did

  • Obtained planning permission for 3,243 sq m (GIA) A1 floorspace. Of which, 1,746 sq m (GIA) was for a food store for Aldi and 1,497 sq m for a food store including mezzanine for Marks and Spencer

  • Secured planning permission for a new junction onto the A505 to create a new gateway to the town

  • Tailored a scheme to meet the specific operational requirements of Marks and Spencer and Aldi

  • Full planning permission was obtained that met the specific requirements of the client

  • Bidwells successfully demonstrated that the scheme would not harm the vitality of Royston town centre

  • The scheme will result in the development of low grade scrub land which is of little value to the rural economy and will support neighbouring businesses located in Royston Industrial Estate

  • The creation of up to 110 full time and part time jobs

  • The development is the first phase of a
wider 11 hectare business park proposal
