Bidwells was instructed by Castleoak Limited and Levanter Developments to provide heritage advice in support of proposals to redevelop the Grade II Listed Lower Mill and its Grade II Listed Granary for a 53-bed extra care facility. 

The scheme involved demolition of a large 1980s office extension to the listed building and its replacement with four new buildings to provide bedroom and living space, with the former mill house used for apartments and communal areas.

 What we did

  • Provided advice at Feasibility Stage to support the purchase of the site 

  • Undertook a Significance Assessment to identify site potential 

  • Undertook a detailed assessment of the listed buildings to identify scope for alteration and benefits to their character 

  • Provided support for pre-application meetings and liaison with conservation officers 

  • Prepared a Building Repair Schedule, to support the application for Listed Building Consent 

  • Provided design advice to the team in order to resolve and mitigate potential impacts 

  • Prepared an Impact Assessment to accompany the submission of applications for Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent
