Heritage Consultancy
Warborough, Oxon

Bidwells was instructed to provide heritage consultancy services to support an application for planning permission for 35 new dwellings in the village made famous by the popular murder mystery programme, Midsomer Murders.

A previous scheme had been refused prior to Bidwells’ appointment. The application has now been agreed in principle, having revised the design and character of the scheme to accommodate the views of Historic England and the local planning authority’s Conservation Officer.

What we did

  • Following thorough analysis of the site including a typology and context study, Bidwells recommended a revised scheme to overcome heritage objections

  • Provided a Heritage Statement which clarified the heritage value of the Conservation Area and surrounding heritage assets and their settings

  • Assessed the impact of the revised development on the significance of the surrounding buildings and Conservation Area

  • Clarified planning procedures to Client and provided support throughout the submission process when objections were received

  • Councillors agreed that the revised scheme was an acceptable solution that complied with policy

  • Planning Permission was granted in principle at a Committee held in April subject to a 106 Agreement

  • Bidwells’ support was vital in securing consent following significant objections on heritage grounds from Historic England and Conservation Officers
