Health Impact Assessment,
Bassingbourn

Bidwells’ was instructed to prepare a health impact assessment (HIA) on a 30 unit housing association scheme in Bassingbourne.

The scheme had been refused planning consent in part because of an inadequate HIA: Bidwells was appointed to provide a higher quality HIA.

 What we did

  • Undertook local population analysis to identify vulnerable groups who might be affected by the development

  • Identified the pathways through which health impacts would be delivered, with a focus on open space

  • Devised a locally specific assessment methodology

  • Identified the significance of the development proposal on the health of the local population

  • Provided recommendations for how the scheme could reduce the negative impacts and maximise the health benefits

Result

  • Delivered an approved HIA that met with South Cambridgeshire’s HIA requirements, overcoming one of the reasons for planning refusal, and enabling the client to gain planning consent.
