Electricity Supply Nominees Ltd (ESN)
Thirty years is a long time, even in the life of a commercial tree crop, and that’s how long our relationship with ESN has been maturing.
In the mid-1980s we began working for ESN, first purchasing, then developing and managing a forestry and renewable energy portfolio to provide part of the pension income for retired electricity industry workers. Today the portfolio amounts to some 8,800 hectares of forest spread across seven properties in southern Scotland and northern England.
Over 20 years ago we found that parts of the forests at higher altitude could be well suited for an alternative use: renewable energy generation. The Bidwells Forestry and Renewable Energy teams worked together to handle all aspects of negotiations with developers for five wind farms on the portfolio. Today, two more wind farms are in the planning process. Ultimately, these projects could generate enough electricity to supply 150,000 homes.
ESN and Bidwells worked well together from the start. We understand the client’s need for us to add value and sensitively improve returns from its portfolio. They know that they can trust our combined expertise in forestry and renewable energy. Today, ESN has a high-quality, high-performing forestry and renewable energy investment. We’re proud to have helped create this, and to be part of an industry which supports thousands of jobs in rural communities, while enabling the client to provide stable pension funds for its members. The fact that this has all been achieved from sustainable, renewable sources makes this a winner all round.
