Community Building
Strategy

FOR CAMBRIDGE URBAN EXPANSION

Bidwells researched the need for a community building in Darwin Green Phase 2&3, making a recommendation on its size, scale and location.

 What we did

  • Audited existing nearby community centres, identifying the gaps in local provision

  • Profiled likely population of the new development to identify likely users and uses for a community building

  • Prepared recommendations

  • Presented findings to a multi-authority workshop, and negotiated a consensus about the specification and best location for the facility in Darwin Green. This required balancing different requirements from design, sports, planning and education officers

Result

  • Officer consensus on the location and function of the facility

  • Clarified the position to enable master planning to proceed

  • Client extremely happy with the outcome which overcame uncertainty and competing within the Local planning authority
