The Claughton Centre, formerly Sir Gilbert Claughton School, is a school building constructed in 1904.
The building is neither Statutorily or Locally Listed but is considered to be a nondesignated heritage asset.
A Prior Approval application for change of use from office to residential (up to 21 apartments) and Outline Planning Permission for 63 dwellings to the rear of the former school was sought.
What we did
Prepared a Significance Assessment which identified the asset’s relative value (including an assessment of its setting extent and quality) and to provide a clear context for the proposed scheme
Identified and assessed a number of adjacent heritage assets including a number of locally listed buildings and two areas of Historic Landscape Value
Prior Approval granted for change of use
Outline Planning Permission granted at committee
All matters reserved except for access for 63 dwellings on land to rear of retained former school
