Brick Lane
Historic Warehouse Conversion

Bidwells specialist Hospitality & Leisure Planning team and Heritage team have been appointed by Time Out Market to advise on the planning application for conversion of an historic warehouse opposite Spitalfields Market into a fine dining food market.

What we did

  • Working with the Architects and wider project team to secure planning permission for a 16 kitchen upmarket venue designed to showcase the very best in London’s food culture, featuring some of the City’s top chefs and restaurateurs

  • The application site is one of London’s oldest surviving horse repositories and retains much of its original design and materials, located in the Brick Lane and Fournier Street Conservation Area and within the setting of a number of listed buildings

  • Comprehensive justification has been required to support the proposed change of use and a long term public relations campaign is well under way

  • A previous scheme was refused on grounds of loss of historic roof; configuration of internal layout; and the scale of operation and potential impacts upon residential amenity.

Result

  • Considerable support has been garnished from the local community, including businesses and residents

  • The project team is confident that a recommendation for approval by officers will be secured

  • The extensive PR campaign has also demonstrated that there is considerable political support in the community for the nature of proposed use and associated employment opportunities
