Solar power involves the capture of energy from the sun to produce electricity. It can be installed for self supply or export to the grid and with careful planning can sit along side other renewable technologies including biomass, wind and AD.
The panels are versatile and can be situated on rooftops, replace roof panels, provide wall cladding, or can be freestanding in field space.
Since the 1st April 2010 the Feed in Tariff has provided support to producers of renewable electricity up to 5MW. A field of around 10 Ha will accommodate sufficient panels to generate this maximum capacity of electricity.
The market for solar PV is set to grow rapidly and roof mounted and solar arrays in fields are set to become a familiar part of our landscape.
