Heat Pumps

Heat pumps can appear to achieve the impossible – more energy out than is put in.  In fact, they are amongst the most efficient means of obtaining heat and the yield of heat can be several times the electrical power used to run the system.  Low grade heat is extracted from a variety of sources, typically ground, air or water and, by means of heat exchangers, converted to higher temperatures which are suitable for heating premises and other uses.  They can be used in conjunction with other technologies to provide integrated systems and usually have the advantage of low running and maintenance costs.
