"The past summer has been dominated by two major stories, the ongoing tensions and critical debt levels within the eurozone, and the good old British weather. The current difficulties surrounding Greece and Italy, and to a lesser degree three or four other member states, casts a long shadow over the economic recovery of many parts of Europe and potentially the US and other world economies. Growth in the UK is almost non-existent and the recent business predictions state that the Scottish economy may shrink during the next 12 months. A challenging outlook at best." |

Timber database - Year to 30/09/2009 |
"When we reported results for the year to 30 September 2008, timber markets were just beginning to show signs of adjustment to the financial crisis. What a difference a year makes! Looking at standing values for timber in the 0.4m3 per tree average size, prices have fallen by approximately 30% over the year to 30 September 2009. Whereas in 2008, data provided to us from contributors totalled almost 890,000m3 of coniferous timber sales, this year we have figures for less than 260,000m3." |
