Local plan promotion was sought for up to 2,600 homes and 25,000 sq m of commercial floorspace. This ran parallel with a planning application for 1,800 homes and 25,000 sq m of commercial floorspace, plus a two form entry school, local centre and a 7,500 sq m care facility on Dunsfold Aerodrome, home of the Top Gear race track.
What we did
Created a planning strategy to reverse a planning refusal by the Secretary of State for 2,600 homes in 2009.
Identified significant changes in housing needs since the previous refusal, coupled with a shift in government policy in the NPPF towards optimising use of brownfield sites to protect green belt and AONB. Significant support for larger Dunsfold Park option in local plan consultation. Submission of a planning application in parallel with the local plan promotion was made to demonstrate delivery and assist authority with five year land supply.
Achieved full council approval of the submission local plan in December 2016, allocating Dunsfold Park for up to 2,600 homes, subject to infrastructure improvements.
- Achieved resolution to grant consent to 1,800 homes, local centre and business park in December 2016.
